Effective strategic planners working with large groups know
that:
- Getting those with authority, information,
resources, expertise, and need in one room is the
fastest route to action.
- Exploring the "whole elephant" first results in
better decisions.
- Putting problems and conflicts on hold helps people
find common ground.
- People discover capabilities they never knew they
had when facilitators let them find out for themselves.
- Effective planning in cross-cultural groups requires
working with each person's experience, not a
consultant's Powerpoints.
Learn the methodology of Future Search from its
originators, Sandra Janoff and Marvin Weisbord. This
experiential workshop integrates the theory, philosophy, and
practice of the strategic planning meeting that honors all
learning styles, respects all cultures, and enables
cooperative participation regardless of differences.
Whether you need to mobilize a dinosaur for quick
cooperative change or your whole system facilitation skills
are becoming extinct, NOW is the optimum time to come
learn the meeting design that's breaking new ground in
hundreds of groups worldwide.

FAA
How the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) made
unprecedented changes to the air traffic management
system considered impossible prior to Future Search.
"Thank you for a marvelous roller coaster ride. I learned
the universal value of Future Search principles and was
enlightened, too, by your facilitation style. You are so
focused on the principles and hands-off the content and
outcomes. What a beautiful lesson!" - Barry Childs,
President, Africa Bridge
"What has impressed me about the Future Searches I have
joined is the community that people build. Participants walk
away with surprising relationships, a new level of
awareness, new skills for inclusivity and dialogue, and
action plans with next steps." - Ruth McCambridge,
Editor, Non-Profit Quarterly
At "Managing a Future Search" you will learn the
theory, philosophy, techniques, and minimum conditions for
success that have bridged cultural boundaries the world
over.
EVEN if you never put on a Future Search, you will
learn a set of principles at the workshop that will
influence any form of planning you ever undertake.
A Message from the Presenters
Dear executives, consultants, strategy planners,
facilitators, and meeting managers:
For more than 20 years we have been refining the principles
and practices of effective large group plannning. We have
had the good fortune to be supported in this by the
350-member Future Search Network, whose members have used,
adapted, and enhanced the core practices on every continent,
assuring us (and you) that the methods we teach have been
tested in many of the world’s cultures. We have evolved
effective processes that help people contain their
differences, appreciate each others’ experiences, and
cooperate on projects, policies, systems and procedures they
may have once considered unthinkable.
Future Search not only produces a vision. It helps people
turn their dreams into immediate action plans. After
training more than 3000 people in Future Search, we believe
we have a proven learning model for a methodology that has
changed the way thousands of people go about change. In
addition, you will meet diverse participants who are total
strangers and leave with a support network of new colleagues
and friends.
The workshop includes a detailed notebook; a copy of our
Berrett-Koehler book Future Search: An Action Guide;
a simulation you will help design as part of the training in
how to frame a successful planning meeting; the history and
theory behind what we do; and interactive sessions on
methods and strategy. We cite numerous case examples from
the worlds of business, community development, education,
health care, sustainability, and many other sectors. Along
the way we laugh a lot too. Come join us and learn for
yourself!
Sincerely, Sandra Janoff and Marvin Weisbord
"A remarkably inspiring experience, and a personal turning
point for me." - Ian Duffy, General Manager, IKEA, China
